There are thousands of reasons why I ♥ Portland, Oregon. Ever so slowly, I shall catalog them all here. Use the menu to the right to view by category, or just scroll your way through...
I ♥ Portland, Oregon

From an article on The Windsor Star:

"Portland, already lauded for low crime, a burgeoning food scene and tolerant citizenry, added another quality-of-life crown as the 8,000-plus frequent flyers surveyed by Zagat rated its airport 22.5. This was nearly two points higher than second-place Tampa International."

Portland Food Carts
This site is an ode to Portland’s food carts, and a practical guide on where to find them and what to eat once you get there. It contains a listing of carts, a map, a search feature, and categories by cuisine types and specific locations. It also contains photos and menus if we can get them.

My name is Alicia. I love to make things.

I live with my irrepressible husband, Andy, a sweet Cardigan corgi puppy named Clover Meadow, and two bossy kitties. We play house in a little chocolate-brown cottage in Portland, Oregon, with a neglected rose garden in front and a featherbed-topped hammock out back.

The largest roosting colony of Vaux's Swifts in the world (about 40,000 individuals) can be found each September in the old chimney of Chapman School in Portland.

Hundreds of people gather on the lawn of Chapman school and nearby Wallace Park, from about an hour before sunset to about a half hour after, to watch the Swifts gather insects and engage in swooping acrobatic feats before fluttering into the chimney to roost.

Mill Ends Park 02/21/2010

Mill Ends Park is the world's smallest city park (according to the Guinness Book of World Records in 1976). The park is just two feet wide, and sits in the middle of Naito Parkway. It is the only colony for leprechauns west of Ireland.

Renovations over the years have included a swimming pool and diving board for butterflies, and a miniature Ferris Wheel (delivered by full sized crane).

Powell's Books 02/20/2010

powell's books
From humble storefront beginnings in 1971 on a derelict corner of northwest Portland, Oregon, Powell's Books has grown into one of the world's great bookstores, with seven locations in the Portland metropolitan area, and one of the book world's most successful dot-coms (www.powells.com), serving customers worldwide.

Powell's distinctive synergy today underpins four full-service bookstores (Powell's City of Books, Powell's at Cedar Hills Crossing, Powell's on Hawthorne, and Powell's at PDX), two specialty stores (Powell's Technical Books and Powell's Books for Home and Garden), and Powells.com.

Little Bay Root 02/20/2010

little bay root
What are we? We are a community of like-minded people sharing the love of one of America’s greatest cities through a collection of Stumptown stories and the design of apparel and gifts that celebrate the unique spirit of Stumptown.

Oh, the name? Little Bay Root. It’s a play on words. Once upon a time staffers of former U.S. President George H. W. Bush used to refer to Portland as Little Beirut because of the protesters he encountered during his visits. Hence, a little less harsh and playful name… Welcome to Little Bay Root.
