Behind the Docks
The gray coastal waters and cloudy skies lend an aura of surreality to this small cone.

The Douglas-fir, or Pseudotsuga menziesii, is a medium-large evergreen tree and is the state tree of Oregon. These two branch bits were some of the remnants of a wind storm.

Mixed Company
Douglas Fir cones are small but numerous in the temperate rain forests of the Pacific Northwest. Go ahead, hide behind a bush and chuck them at passersby. You know you want to.

Default Shade
The Coast Redwood (California Redwood), or Sequoia sempervirens is quite a tree to behold in person. Among the tallest trees on this planet, the redwoods inspire awe and contemplations of significance. This particular grove is one of my favorite places to pay homage to some of Earth's most magnificent beings.

Living Disguise
The Bigleaf Maple is aptly named - leaves can typically grow to 30cm (11.8 inches) across. This tree is also the source of the "helicopter" seeds that delight all who see them as they fall.

West of Space
A close up of moss on the trunk of a tree in the sunlight. Delicate spider webs emerge throughout. In a temperate rain forest, glimpses of sunlight can be hard to come by. Catch them if you can.
