Daogreer Earth Works
Daogreer Earth Works began as a custom-painted photo frame operation in the late '90s (then called Daogreer Enterprises), and has expanded over the years to include batik, block printing, ceramics, clothing / costumes, collage, digital art, diorama, etched glass, graphic design, holiday ornaments, jewelry, mixed media, mosaic, mural, pen and ink, photography, pointillism, publishing, screen printing, shadow boxes, teaching art to middle schoolers, velcro cubicle art, vinyl ID wallets, and watercolor.

Clearly I switch crafts like a gnat, but my interest in photography has been fairly consistent.
Though I had spent time in the darkroom and in the field learning the principals of photography for years, I didn't get my own film SLR until the early '90s — it had already been in use for decades by my dad (photo is dad + the camera in question in the late '70s), and by the time it was mine, it had a faulty light meter. I was heartbroken when the camera finally died for good (about half an hour after I took this photo). |
Its replacement still works, but I have since moved on to digital photography (every once in a while I'll track down some actual film and bust out the old camera; the precision challenge of 24 shots and no preview screen is appealing, even with a functional light meter to help me get the correct exposure).
What's a Daogreer, anyway?
This little bug above is my friend Daogreer. He rarely speaks, but when he does, he speaks entirely in symbols. He finds that he can cover a wider range of meaning that way. He always faces to the left — he's quite a particular little bug; he likes things the way he likes them, and he's slow to change.
|
What kind of bug is he? That's a difficult question to answer. He has six legs, like an insect, but only two body segments rather than three. He has wings and antennae, but those are certainly not compound eyes. I've tried asking him, but he only replies in symbols — he's a cryptic little bugger.
|
Daogreer and I have been inseparable friends since 1994.
He is my business partner, so even though his name is tricky to spell and difficult to pronounce ( DOW - greer ), the name of the company will always be Daogreer Earth Works. |
Why Earth?
The Earth is my home, and it is the only home I'll ever know - mostly because space travel frightens the living daylights out of me.
That said, I do as much as possible within my power to make environmentally friendly choices in my daily life, and I shall inflict those choices on you, should you choose to become my customer. |
