Murrietta365 hosts a "Straight Out Of the Camera" (SOOC) challenge each Sunday, which proved to be harder than expected. Turns out there aren't very many shots that I don't edit at least a little bit.

So, after some digging, I found this little gem. Not only is it SOOC, but it's film! Remember that stuff? I took this photo with my Pentax 35mm SLR (not digital). I couldn't see each shot as I took it. I had a limit of 24 shots. I had to wait a whole hour to know if I had gotten anything good.

I absolutely love digital photography, because it allows me to learn from my mistakes in real time.

However, I think every photographer should dust off the old 35mm every once in a while for a lesson in patience, and to learn to think through each shot and the camera settings that will make it a good one. You can't rely on the habit of taking 50 shots of one subject knowing that, statistically, one of them will end up coming out OK (well, you can, but it gets expensive pretty quick).

On this particular day, it was windy, and there was a cat that kept getting in the way of things (he was having fun nuzzling the side of my lens right as I was about to release the shutter). Some other shots from that same roll (yes, an actual roll) of film are shown below:

I've only gone digital a couple of years ago, and it was the expense and wanting to take so many more pictures that finally made me give in to digital, and now I absolutely love it! My DSLR has me so spoiled, but I still haven't taken up the editing of pictures yet. I love the whole series (including your helper) you've shared.

My old 35 mm cameras clonked out, about 10 years ago. I even tried having them repaired, to no avail. I even hung on to them for another 9 years, because I loved them, before donating them to Goodwill. Now, I love digital, and can't imagine going back. The photo you've shared today is great.

Hi!
Beautiful shot! I loved my old film 35 mm camera. It took great pictures. But it was getting so expensive to have they developed. And then only getting 1 or 2 good shots. Plus it broke a few years ago and didn't have the money to fix it. Have a great day!

remember all to well the days of film, 24 or 36, a week to develop, only one ISO at a time, not knowing if you captured the shot you were looking for until it was too late to retake it ~~ I love digital!

Wonderful poppy captures! These are some of the first flowers I ever remember paying attention to in a photograph when i was a child. They are so evocative. Well done!

oh! WOW! This is gorgeous! Just simply gorgeous. I love this, and how cool that it was taken with film. I would have never known. I love the nice detail and the DoF. Just lovely!

Gorgeous! Love the DOF.

Digital has made "photographers" of us all. But once we've all "edited" the heck out of our shots, what's really left of the photograph? Film, costly, but sure ups the ante on putting everything you know about lighting, composition, exposure, etc., to work in a single moment.

Beautiful shot. Thanks so much for sharing and making me think harder about getting my head together behind the viewfinder for each and every shot.

Gorgeous poppy! I can't imagine still trying to shoot with film- I love the ability to delete all the bad ones- it's the best way to learn & keep trying.

I so miss our Pentax film camera. It stopped working 3 years ago and since then, hubby refuses to repair it. He thinks I am crazy to want to continue taking shots from that cam in this digital era...:(
I love SOOC shots. Many a time, i never want to edit at all, cause the result straight out from the camera is good.

Great composition on this shot! I love all my Pentax film cameras. The K1000 is one of my favorites. I get nostalgic sometimes and take it out to shoot some analog. This is the reason I do the Film challenges. =)
